Business wellbeing packages for your employees and the self-employed

We are strong believers in the adage ‘prevention is better than cure’

In 2018/2019 6.9 million working days were lost to work-related injury. On average that is 14 days per incident (HSE – Annual Statistics – Pub March 2019). This does not consider any working days lost due to musculoskeletal issues experienced outside of the workplace, or the well-documented effects of obesity on productivity. And then there’s mental health…

According to the Centre of Mental Health, mental health issues cost the UK economy £34.9bn last year with 1 in 6 people in England reporting experiencing a common mental health problem (such as anxiety, stress or depression) in any given week.

It’s no surprise that there is a strong correlation between mental and physical health, with running and exercise being highlighted as positive actions for those with Mental Health issues.

Incredibly, there are no current schemes available to help deal with the stresses and issues related to modern living which impact people’s ability to function. Similarly, there are no schemes to help small businesses (or the self-employed) reduce the risk of muscle-skeletal problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please find below some of our frequently asked questions about our sports therapy treatment – you can find even more FAQs in our full FAQs section.

What is Sports Therapy and what can a Sports Therapist treat?

Sports Therapy is a form of therapy which addresses musculoskeletal injuries, aches and pains and chronic injuries. A Sports Therapist can work in multiple areas and may work with people suffering from chronic pain, the professional and amateur sports person, the gardener who are injured or in pain.

How does it work?

We will determine the best treatment for your complaint based on a full and comprehensive assessment. The most common treatment techniques are:- Deep tissue/soft tissue massage, Joint mobilisation techniques, Stretching and lengthening, techniques Acupuncture, Trigger point therapy, Exercise therapy, Taping and strapping,
Injury prevention/screening

How many treatments will I need?

This will depend entirely on the type of injury, our assessment following your first treatment, and the rehabilitation period. This includes you putting into practice our advice for recovery, including resting.

Will the treatment hurt?

We can’t guarantee manual therapy won’t be painful, but it’s important for you to be honest with us and tell us if it’s hurting.

We use a pain scale where 0 is you can’t feel anything, and 10 is that you’re going to hit the roof, or us! The maximum we want to reach is 7, there will be the odd occasion when it might reach an 8. If you’re concerned, tell us and we will work within those limits.

Are there any side effects to Sports Therapy?

The most common side-effect is some general aching/soreness for 24-48 hours, however, most people do not experience any side effects at all.

What should I wear?

To properly assess your alignment and posture, it is important that we be able to see nearly all of your body. Therefore, shorts and a loose-fitting t-shirt are advised. If you’re comfortable removing them, this will allow us better access for our examination.

What our patients say about us

  • Andy is seriously one fo the most incredible sports therapist I have ever encountered (and I have seen a lot of them). Due to a couple of injuries I have chronic back, neck and shoulder pain and seeing Andy always brought great relief. He not only delivered excellent treatment time and time again, but he went the extra mile working with other health care professionals (such as my Osteopath) to ensure they were working with one another to maximise my results.

He was always contributing to develop his skill and used a combination of massage, kinesiotape and other treatments to ensure I got pain relief and increased mobility. Andy would also give additional stretches and exercises for me to do at home so I could make the image of the treatment last longer.

Andy’s hours were great for fitting in my work schedule and having worked in a corporate environment he was acutely aware of the challenges that come with it and made sure his advice made sense in real life. Sadly I moved away from the UK, but one of the things I miss the most is Andy. I have often joked with my husband about flying him over because I can’t find anyone close to as good as hime. I can’t recommend West Berkshire Injury Clinic enough.

  • If you are looking for sports therapists who know their stuff and go the extra mile look no further. Having moved away from Newbury I still return for treatments and advice as I haven’t found anyone as good
